Athletic Director

Coach Andy McDonald and his wife, Mrs. McDonald, are the directors of the Stella Maris’ Athletic program.

The Athletic Director at Stella Maris plays a vital role in fostering a dynamic and inclusive athletic program that aligns with the school’s mission and values. This position is essential in ensuring that our students receive a comprehensive athletic education that promotes physical fitness, character development, and a lifelong love of sports.

Responsibilities

1. Program Development and Management

    • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the athletic program, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of our student body.
    • Develop a wide range of sports offerings, including team sports, individual sports, and fitness activities. 
    • Ensure that all programs adhere to safety guidelines and promote a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.

2. Coaching and Staff Development

    • Recruit, train, and mentor coaching staff, providing them with the necessary resources and support to foster student-athletes’ growth.
    • Organize professional development opportunities for coaches to stay updated on best practices in athletic training, safety protocols, and sportsmanship.

3. Student Engagement and Support

    • Encourage student participation in athletic programs by promoting the benefits of sports, fitness, and teamwork.
    • Support students in setting and achieving personal athletic goals while fostering a sense of sportsmanship and camaraderie among teammates.

4. Coordination of Events and Competitions

    • Plan and organize athletic events, including inter-school competitions, tournaments, and special sports days, that encourage student participation and community engagement.
    • Collaborate with other schools and organizations to facilitate competitions and events that enhance the athletic experience for our students.

5. Communication and Community Building

    • Maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, and staff regarding athletic programs, schedules, and policies.
    • Foster a sense of community among students, families, and staff through athletic events, encouraging school spirit and collaboration.

6. Assessment and Improvement

    • Regularly assess the effectiveness of the athletic program, gathering feedback from students, parents, and coaches to identify areas for improvement.
    • Implement changes and innovations based on feedback and emerging trends in sports education to continually enhance the program.
